This LEGO series is aimed at the older collector. The box states 14+ but kids over 10 years old, who are into LEGO, should be fine with this set. Part of the reason for the older age suggestion is that it contains 1,664 LEGO pieces so certainly takes some time to put together. One of the things that I like about this set is that it comes with a decent selection of LEGO figures. In all there are nine minifigures including the captain of this ship, his beautiful daughter, a lieutenant, his four soldiers, the ship’s cook and a prisoner in shackles who was once a pirate captain.
The ship itself has plenty of detail. It has three sections that can be removed providing access to many different areas. In the main hull there are four cannons, crates of ammunition, weapons including muskets and cannonballs. In the prison there even a rat. The kitchen has a variety of things including fish, bits of turkey and a carrot!
The ship also has a fully working anchor that can be lowered and raised. The ship’s rudder also moves. It is easy to access the inside of the ship by opening the front deck’s doors. You can get into the captain’s quarters when you open up the back doors on the ship. There are plenty of nice little things there too such as navigation equipment (map, sextant and telescope), a treasure chest, an organ and bottle of poison. Six of the ship’s windows in this area also open and close too.
All in all this ship is a huge LEGO set that can occupy a child for hours. When fully built the ship measures 75 cm long by 60 cm high. It is a substantial amount of LEGO. You can find the LEGO Pirates Imperial Flagship on Amazon which sells a huge range of cheap toys.
