I have been using the latest generation Kindle 3 from Amazon for the last few months. In this article I want to talk about my own experiences with this electronic book reader. So that you know from the outset, I am a bit of a tech geek and my fascination with gadgets was one of the reasons that I chose to get this product. But I also love to read and have been pleasantly surprised at just how much I enjoy reading with my Kindle. It is certainly more than a fad item as far as I am concerned.
In this article I will simply lay out some of the features of the Kindle 3 that I find appealing. This is the first Kindle that I have owned so I cannot really compare it to any of the earlier models using my own experiences. So I simply plan on talking about the things that make me glad that I chose this device. Below you can read my personal Kindle 3 review. The model that I bought cost me $189 in the summer of 2010. This is the 6″ Kindle with 3G+Wi-Fi. If you are not sure where to buy the Kindle 3, there really is only one show in town. You should go to the Amazon webstore.
When I was deciding which model to get, I thought that the 3G functionality was necessary. But now I am not so sure about this. I am glad I have it because it means I am able to download books where ever I am. I also have internet access on my Kindle for free which is nice. However, to be honest, it would not be too much of a hassle if I did not have this feature. I have the internet at home and work so downloading books from these locations would be very easy. Also, other than testing it out, I have never had cause to actually use the web browser on my Kindle 3. If I am being honest, it is not very user friendly and it quite tricky to use.
The Kindle 3 excels as an electronic book reader. I love the electronic paper and electronic ink system. In actual fact, I have no real idea how it works but it is very impressive. It is totally different to a computer screen. Rather than being back lit, you require an external light source to read the Kindle. You may have realized that this means that reading a Kindle is much easier on the eyes than looking at a computer screen. So you truly can relax while you read the Kindle.
It is relatively light weight and using it to read books is very straight forward. There are page turn buttons on either side. The larger (lower down) button is to page forward and the smaller (higher up) button is to turn back a page. When I first got my Kindle 3, I thought that the page turn feature was slow. However I do not think that any more. Perhaps I have just gotten used to it. Or maybe it is that I now accept that a Kindle is not a computer. Either way, even though turning pages is not instantaneous, it is fast enough.
The main feature of the Kindle reading system that I have been using is the ability to download books for free. There is a very large selection of out of copyright books that all Kindle users have access to without having to pay a penny to download and read the titles. There are currently more than 1.8 million of these texts. So with a Kindle reader, you really could never buy another book again. This makes the Kindle 3 price appear really good value for money.
So far I do not have any complaints about my hand held reading device. I like to think that this Kindle 3 review has been balanced and hope that you have a better idea of how it works and whether you would enjoy using one.
